The competition is open to filmmakers from around the world.
Short description
The promoter of the competition is Creo ARTS Group Ltd located in London.
“ Established by Creo and sponsored by Sony, the Sony Future Filmmaker Awards is a major new annual awards program for short films devoted to supporting and elevating independent filmmakers and creators from across the globe.
There are three competitions:
• Filmmaker
Aimed at independent filmmakers and creators from around the world, there are three categories: Fiction, Non-Fiction and Environment. Submissions must be between 5 to 20 minutes in length.
• Student Filmmaker
All entrants must be studying a film course at a registered institution at a diploma or degree level worldwide. There are two categories: Fiction and Non-fiction. Submissions must be between 5 to 20 minutes in length.
• Future Format
The Future Format competition challenges filmmakers to respond to a technical brief – this year, submissions are to be shot exclusively on a smartphone. Submissions must be between 2 to 5 minutes in length.
Entry fee
The competition is free to enter.
Prizes
• Filmmaker
The three winners receive $5,000 (USD), and an FX9 Cinema Line Camera (plus lens).
• Student Filmmaker
The two winners and their institutions receive a range of Sony camera equipment.
• Future Format
The winner receives $2,500 (USD), and a range of Sony camera equipment.
The 30 successful filmmakers will be flown to Los Angeles for a three-day event at the historic Sony Pictures studio, including a black-tie award ceremony and an exclusive two-day workshop program.
