Who may enter
The competition is open to all writers around the world whether published or unpublished. Entrants must be over 16 years old.


The Bristol Short Story Prize is an annual international writing competition based in Bristol, UK.

The contest is open to stories up to 4000 words. Stories can be on any theme or subject and are welcome in any style including graphic, verse or genre-based (crime, science fiction, fantasy, historical, romance, children’s etc.).

All entries must be in English

Entries can be made online or by post.  

Entry fee
The entry fee is £9. 

• 1st prize: £1,000
• 2nd prize: £500
• 3rd prize: £250
• Each of the 17 remaining shortlisted writers will receive £100.

20 stories will be shortlisted and published in Bristol Short Story Prize Anthology Volume 13.
